Meet with Alumni Thought Leaders in a NEW Fireside Chat Series

Join in Schulich Engage: a speaker series and engagement opportunity offered in collaboration with the Office of Alumni Relations. This series is open to all current graduate level students in Winter 2021. 

Attendees will hear from Schulich alumni in a variety of industries and roles. They’ll share their stories and insights during a fireside chat and moderated Q&A. Following the session, breakout rooms will provide you with an opportunity to connect in more intimate groups – mingle, chat and network virtually with your colleagues, faculty members, staff and alumni.

Gustavo Alvarez Perez (MBA ’05)
Cloud & Infrastructure Services Leaders, Middle East and Africa, IBM (Dubai)

Gustavo is an executive with over 20 years of experience, and has lived and worked in five continents: Latin America, North America, Europe, Africa and Asia. He started his career in 1999 in the United States working for Lucent Technologies, and then moved to Mexico, where he is originally from. He joined IBM in 2006 as Infrastructure Services Manager where he made transformational changes to the organization before taking different a regional role in IBM Latin America. In 2014, Gustavo accepted the challenge to move to Africa to lead and transform the IBM Services business in East Africa. In 2017, he moved to Dubai to lead the Cloud and Infrastructure Services business for Middle East and Africa.

Gustavo holds a Master’s Degree (M.B.A.) from York University in Canada. He holds a Finance specialization from Central European University, and an engineering degree from ITESM in Mexico. He has different postgraduate studies and business certifications from Harvard, M.I.T., Stanford, and Insead.

Gustavo was the Founder and President of LABA (Latin America Business Association) in Schulich School of Business. In his spare time, Gustavo enjoys spending time with family and practice outdoor activities.

Fabiola Sicard (IMBA ’06), Senior International Market Consultant/Area Director, Ontario Ministry of Economic Development, Job Creation & Trade

Fabiola is a bridge builder and a strategist who has developed expertise in international trade, multicultural marketing and business management over 20 years of professional experience. She is a public relationist by nature who enjoys helping people and organizations in defining a successful strategy, be it to finding a job or setting up or expanding a business. In her current role at the Ministry of Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade, she supports small and medium size enterprises interested in exporting or expanding operations to Mexico. Fabiola spent two years in the consulting business and a decade at Scotiabank where she was part of the team that defines and implements the bank’s strategy to target and serve newcomers to Canada. Fabiola has also worked as an international business advisor for a Mexican state-owned publishing company, as analyst for a boutique investment banking firm and at a business within the U.S. Embassy in Mexico City.

Fabiola has been an advocate of the Latin American community in Canada, being involved in several organizations in a variety of roles, among them: Vice Chair and co-founder of Hola Ontario Public Service, co-founder of the Latin America MBA Alumni Network (LAMBA), co-founder of Hola Scotiabank, and advisor to the Toronto Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.
