Whether this is your first term at Schulich or you’re returning this Fall, it’s always a good idea to brush up on your enrolment and attendance rules!

Here are some important reminders about enrolment as you begin the Fall term:

DO: attend your classes!

Attendance is required at all classes, especially the first and second weeks. You can be de-enrolled if you do not attend the first (and/or second) class. Unless you have agreed upon an absence ahead of time with an instructor, they have the right to inform Student Services to remove you from a course for an unexplained absence. New students must consult with Student Services for absences occurring in the first two weeks.

DON’T forget enrolment permission deadlines

Enrolling with Instructor Permission:

After Week 1, you may only enrol into courses with the permission of the instructor. The wait list will no longer be in effect. Instructors wishing to have students in their class will indicate their approval for enrolment by completing an Enrol with Instructor Permission Form (Graduate).  It is your responsibility to request permission from the instructor using the required form. (Individual studies excluded – for this, use the Individual Study form).

Use the Enrol with Instructor Permission form during the following term dates only:

Term F2: September 17 – 23, 2016
Term FP, A: September 17 – 30, 2016
Term M: November 5 – 11, 2016

After this period, you are no longer able to add yourself to courses using a form (petition required), and you may only attend classes if you are officially enrolled.

As a second reminder, the deadline to change status from full-time to part-time and vice versa is September 11, 2016. Students wishing to change status must now complete the MBA Graduate Academic Petition Form available on the Graduate Academic Forms database in your MySchulich student portal.

All deadlines are strictly enforced! If you are unable to enrol by the deadline, please contact Student & Enrolment Services to discuss a revised study plan with an advisor, at sosti@schulich.yorku.ca (or Sandra Osti at 416.736.2100 ext. 77971).

DON’T: audit or window-shop classes

“Auditing” classes at Schulich is not permitted. You must be either formally enrolled or on the wait list for all classes you are attending.

DO: double-check your pre-requisites

Be sure to check the course description of the electives you are taking to ensure that you have the required pre-requisites. Pre-requisite checks are completed before the start of the term and you may be automatically de-enrolled if you lack the pre/co-requisite. Please note that permission to enrol in a course where the pre-requisite has been waived will only be processed immediately if there is no waitlist for the elective. If a wait list exists, the form will be processed after the first week of classes (space permitting).

DO: add your name to the wait list for electives courses that are full

The Wait List will be assessed throughout the first week of classes. Please check your Schulich email regularly to see if you have been granted permission to add a wait listed course. You will have limited time to add the course to your schedule! If you do not enrol during the specified time, the spot will be granted to the next person on the wait list. You should attend the first week of classes if your name is on the wait list for a course.
You may add your name to a maximum of three wait lists per term.

DO: reach out for academic accommodations

We’re committed to supporting your success at Schulich. Read more about how you can ensure that accommodations are in place in the classroom to promote your full academic ability.

Wishing you all the best for a successful start of term!
