What is the Immersive International Option?
The Immersive International Option (IIO) gives MBA students the opportunity to complete the Strategy Field Study (‘601’) in an international context. If selected for this option, students will be working with a foreign client organization (this year: Costa Rica) recruited by Schulich. The IIO will include a spotlight on the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
The project kicks off with a trip to Costa Rica (September 3rd– 11th) to meet with the client and learn about the client’s context. This trip is integral to the project. participation is required. Students unable to travel should not apply for the IIO. The trip is followed by the regular ‘601’ structure (identification of strategic issues, extensive primary and secondary research, development of alternatives and recommendations, crafting of an implementation plan) while communication with the client is maintained virtually.
Students will be working in 6-member teams on their projects. Up to 12 students (2 teams) will be selected for the IIO. Students apply individually and are selected on the basis of academic excellence, work ethic, and teamwork skills. The IIO admissions committee will create the teams from among the successful applicants.
We are in the process of recruiting client sites with the help of our partners at the York campus in Las Nubes, Costa Rica. The client selection won’t be finalized until later in the summer.
Please view this recording of the IIO Info Session from May 24th for more information. Passport York credentials (single sign-on: SSO) are required to view the recording.
What are the costs of the program?
Students are responsible for covering the costs of the program ($1,500) and travel to Costa Rica and back. The program fee covers local accommodation in homestays, local transportation, activities, meals, and entertainment. Students are expected to make their own travel arrangements to San Jose, Costa Rica.
York International has agreed to fund $800 of each student’s international travel. Successful applicants are eligible to apply.
