Dear Schulich International Students,

I hope this email finds you well. As we continue through the academic year, we in the Schulich International Relations department want to check in and see how you are doing. We understand that studying in a foreign country comes with unique challenges, and we’re here to support you every step of the way.

(1) Check-In: How Are You Doing?

Before we dive into the details of the English Language Peer Support (“ELPS“) program, we want to take a moment to ask how you’re coping with your academic endeavours and adjusting to life at Schulich. Your well-being is our priority, and we are here to help you navigate any challenges you might be facing. Please get in touch with us if you ever need guidance, support, or someone to talk to.

(2) Introducing new member to the ELPS family: Assisting You on Your Path to Academic Success

We are very pleased to have Karandeep Lall joined as the second English Language Peer Supporters. With 2 peer supporters now, we offered more time slots for you to book appointments with us. Please see Karandeep’s photo and introduction below:

Headshot of Karandeep LallHello all, my name is Karandeep Lall, but I typically go by Karan. I am an MBA student at Schulich, and I am also completing my JD degree at Osgoode Hall Law School at the same time. I am excited to be your English Language Peer Support (ELPS) tutor!

Writing, editing, and speaking English can be difficult even for students whose first language is English. I really struggled with understanding citations and structuring essays. When I was doing my Undergraduate degree, York’s library staff gave me some helpful resources that taught me the best way to get my point across and how to cite properly.

I know that school can be difficult, especially at this level and even more so if you are studying in a different language. My job is to help you express your full academic potential by helping you get a better understanding of the English language. Hopefully any help I can give you during our time together will help you beyond your degree. I look forward to meeting with you and helping you improve your English skills!

Now, let’s talk about ELPS, a valuable resource to enhance your academic experience. ELPS offers one-to-one academic English language support for assignments and academic oral communication, and we want to provide detailed introductions on how to use this service effectively.

What is ELPS?

The ELPS program is designed to provide all Schulich students with personalized, online academic English language assistance for assignments, cases, papers, and presentation skills. If you’re seeking support to improve your academic English proficiency, our dedicated peer supporters are ready to collaborate with you.

How to Use ELPS:

To book a one-to-one appointment for writing practice, please use the “English Language Peer Support Appointment” link under the “Useful Links” section of your MySchulich Student Portal.  Please have your assignment ready in Google Docs. These appointments will take place on Microsoft Teams. Please note that students cannot send their assignments via email for review. Remember, this is not merely an editing service; it’s a valuable learning opportunity.

For more detailed information and guidance on using the booking system, please refer to the ELPS website here.
